Out of the Wild and into Cairns

This morning, Liesal, Esther and I surfed the green waves in the rainforest. It. was. AWESOME. They strapped us in and gave us helmets with aliases on them, which Esther speculated, was based on our appearances. I was Pocahontas, Liesal Xena, and Esther Darth Vader. I thought it was quite fitting. On our way up, one of the guides spoke into his walkie-talkie: Jungle Monkey to Thunder Bird, the birdies are in the nest. LMAO. We swung through the trees from platform to platform. It was so exhilarating! Our last trip we made upside down with our legs wrapped around the rope and our arms dangling. Definitely an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.

We had some free time before we had to leave so I walked along the beach to shell search. I found a live conch and a conch shell. It is a spectacular looking shell. The best one I've found so far. We left for a walk and talk with Piggy at the Daintree Discovery Centre. They found a green-lipped tree frog in the bathroom, which Jess promptly took and put outside on a leaf. She a got a scolding from the waitress for handling it. Jess was convinced that it was ok to handle. I'm not so sure since all the frogs I've handled at the aquarium, I've worn gloves. Meh, just Jess being Jess.

After lunch, we left the jungle and headed for Cairns. We arrived at Rydges Esplanade and I'm rooming with Hannah and Kelly. Kelly is an older History student originally from Australia, but has lived mostly in the states. I'm pleased with my rooming situation. We flipped for the nice single hotel beds and thankfully I got one since there are only two. Our room is very nice and spacious complete with a balcony and fridge. At 6:30 there was a activities overview where we could sign up for things to do in our free time. I was anticipating the overnight stay dive, but alas they had to cancel due to a change of plans. I suppose it's good that I'll be able to dive with the rest of my friends now and also go Xtreme whitewater rafting. Hannah and I searched for a place to eat afterwards and found a strip of motels and restaurants. We settled for kebabs which turned out to be quite good.
