Oh my Darling, let's Dance

We had our most exciting lecturer yet this morning. Mike, an American and the former director of the Australian Museum, spoke to us about the extreme animals found in Australia and basically how they break every record there is out there. For example, the Mountain Ash Eucalypt beats the California Sequoia as the largest tree in the world. And there were these large 9 ft tall birds called the Dromornithids which were, thankfully, flightless for their poop would've killed you. Fun stuff.

After class, Ruthie, Esther, Kelvin, Marianne and I ferried to Darling Harbour to see the Aquarium. This made me really nostalgic for the Academy of Sciences. I miss my frogs and cuttles. It was still a pretty impressive aquarium. I spent half an hour at the penguin exhibit and got my swimming penguin shot. I also learned that the greatest barrier reef exhibit in the world was made out of popcorn and fiberglass. Fascinating.

We left and walked around the harbour. Esther pointed out a galleria called the Strands which had enchanting old fashioned architecture. There was also a fashion display going on and I wanted every one of those dresses. Most of the stores were high end, but it was just lovely looking. It was like something out of a fairytale. After that, we split and I made my way to the Rocks. I found Angel Alley, where dozens of bird cages hung across wires in the sky. It was eerie, but beautiful. With 3 hours to spare before my dance class, I just wandered around Circular Quay and finally decided on a place to eat. I ordered one of the cheapest things on the menu, their pumpkin soup. I chose to sit outside where the air was still warm and I had a prime spot for people-watching. The soup was very good and I had a great view of the Harbour Bridge.

I took my intermediate lyrical dance class with the Sydney Dance Company. The routine was quirky and to Goyte's Somebody That I Used to Know. That was my last class out of the three. I forgot to mention, but last week I took a beginning hip-hop with Calvin, and another intermed. lyrical. I like the routines from last week slightly better. Probably since there was minimal floorwork and my butt suffered less. It was still a good class and you could tell everyone else had training.

I went home to find that my flip-flop had flown out of my balcony and onto the lawn below. I creeped outside the dorms of other students to get to it. And that's my day. I hope to fit in a slew of activities for our last day in Sydney tomorrow. I'm really going to miss this city.
